Well not quite, but today a team of Cornwall's finest youth footballers from The Truro College Chelsea Foundation, fly to the USA to compete in the Dallas Cup, one of the most important tournaments for spotting future soccer talent.

David Beckham wrote in his book "Both Feet on the Ground" about the impact the Dallas Cup had on him as a 13-year-old. The emphasis being not on the football but on the kindness of the modest Mexican family with whom he was billeted - he still remembers that family above the football. As a Spurs fan, I am bound to note that Peter Crouch, Jermaine Defoe, Ledley King and Lucas all enjoyed the Dallas Cup!
My Dallas tour was as a rugby player and I know that tour is one of the best experiences of your life. This is why I like the ethos expressed by Andy Swift, tournament Director who wants the boys to have a "rounded experience as people not just as soccer players".
Success on tour comes not from the silverware or being spotted, but from the education and cultural exchange that can only come from travel and spending time with the locals.
From our Cornwall base in Falmouth, we wish the boys a great tour. Go Truro!!!
